All the stories of the "A World Not Ours" group were written between Ani 1959 and 1963, with the exception of the last story, "Al-Doss", which was written in 1965, and the book was first published in Beirut in 1965. Therefore, we will find a solid line linking this collection to the two previous Kanafani collections "Death". Bed No. 12” and “The Land of Sad Oranges,” where two main voices come together to form the narrative fabric in the collection: alienation from home, and alienation from dignity.
As the story “The Death of Bed Number 12” was an indication of Kanafani’s attempt to ask questions about Death and about the detailed conditions that people live in in the Gulf, the story of "The Bride" comes to raise the question about the Palestinian national struggle, and about the symbol that will be embodied in the Palestinian rifle. It is not a coincidence that the two stories are written in the form of a letter, and it is not a coincidence that the author is the one who speaks in the image of the two heroes, and it is not a coincidence that the two heroes are marginalized in reality: the first dies and the second becomes insane.
