The story of Wynwood Walls is one of change through passion, art and community. When Tony Goldman stumbled upon the expanse of stock warehouse buildings in Miami’s Wynwood neighborhood, he saw a blank canvas. In 2009, the celebrated visionary set out to transform the area into a center for cultural exploration—with the help of the world’s most innovative and recognized street artists. Walls of Change: The Story of The Wynwood Walls is a rediscovery of a decade of art, inspiration and innovation, with Wynwood’s most celebrated murals, featuring never-before-seen photography of The Walls development, and special commentary from street art’s most iconic figures, including Shepard Fairey, Maya Hayuk, Kenny Scharf, Ron English, and current curators Jessica Goldman Srebnick and the Goldman family, among others. In just ten years, The Wynwood Walls has grown into a phenomenon in its own right, known as a milestone in artists’ careers ,withan ability to catapult unknowns and veterans alike. Under the leadership of CEO Jessica Goldman Srebnick, The Wynwood Walls has become one of the highest profile street art destinations in the world, welcoming over three million visitors annually.
Jessica Goldman Srebnick, CEO of Goldman Properties, is a second-generation leader of the company founded by her father, the late Tony Goldman—and since 2012, she has been the curator of The Wynwood Walls. In 2015, she cofounded Goldman Global Arts, a Miami- and New York-based creative collective. Jessica is an active member of the prestigiousYoung Presidents’ Organization, and she also serves as vice chair of the Town Square Neighborhood Development Corporation Board and co-chair of the Miami Super Bowl 2020 Host Committee. Since 2010, she has been a participant in the YPO/Harvard Business School President’s Program. In 2018, she was named one of Forbes Icons of Impact.
Hal Rubenstein is the author of six books—including the best-selling 100 Unforgettable Dresses—and is one of the foundingeditors of InStyle magazine, where he worked as fashion director for fifteen years. Hal has also served as style director of The New York Times Magazine, one of the founding editors of Details magazine, creator of the cult classic Egg magazine and arestaurant critic for both Details and New York Magazine. In 2019, the CFDA Lifetime Achievement Award winner launched the multiplatform The Happy Grown up, which celebrates the excitement, possibilities and relevance of life after fifty.
Martha Cooper is a Manhattan-based documentary photographer who has specialized in shooting urban vernacular art and architecture for over forty years, with her work appearing in a wide array of national and international publications. Martha’s books include Subway Art, a collaboration with Henry Chalfant; New York State of Mind;Tag Town; Tokyo Tattoo 1970 and Remembering 9/11. In 2009, Martha began photographing The Wynwood Walls while the first murals were being painted, and she has continued to document them every year since.
